- MOSES SolverComputes hydrostatic, hydrodynamic, inertial and mooring forces.
- MOSES scriptingAutomates models, scenarios, reports and parametric studies.
Loads MOSES accounts for
In frequency-domain and time-domain simulation:
Simulate every stage before it happens offshore
Find stability, clearance, motion and loading problems on the screen, not on the barge.
- LoadoutStructure and vessel behaviour while moving a structure onto its transport vessel.
- TransportationVessel motions, stability, environmental loads and cargo behaviour during the tow.
- Heavy liftsCrane-assisted lifts from a floating vessel, including slings and vessel response.
- Float-oversTopside installation and mating using floating vessels.
- UpendingRotating a structure from horizontal to vertical.
- Jacket launchSix-degree-of-freedom launch of a jacket from its barge.
- Subsea operationsInstallation of pipelines, cables and other subsea equipment.
Which edition? Static installation checks start in MOSES. Time-domain simulation needs Advanced, and complex jacket launches, advanced heavy lifts and float-overs need Ultimate.
From hydrodynamics to code checks, in two Bentley tools
MOSES Advanced and Ultimate share models with SACS, so floating structures can be designed to code without rebuilding them.
- 1
Import the SACS model
MOSES Advanced and Ultimate read your SACS structural model directly.
- 2
Analyse in MOSES
Hydrodynamic, structural and fatigue analysis of the floating structure.
- 3
Check in SACS
Run the design code checks on the floating structure in SACS.
We supply and train SACS, Bentley's offshore structural software, with 1,200+ engineers trained.
About SACSFloating offshore wind, platform to turbine
MOSES Wind Turbine, formerly OpenWindPower Floating Platform, combines MOSES Ultimate with OpenFAST solvers, so the platform, mooring and turbine are analysed together.
What it adds
- Platform, mooring and turbine analysed together
- Hydrodynamic and aerodynamic interaction in 3D
- Waves, wind, current and mechanical loads
- OpenFAST turbine solvers
- Platform stability and dynamic response
- Platform and mooring optimisation
- Checks against international offshore standards

What engineers ask us about MOSES
What is MOSES used for?
Hydrostatic and hydrodynamic analysis of offshore floating systems across oil and gas, renewable energy and marine construction, from jacket and topside transport and installation to floating wind turbines.
What is the difference between MOSES, Advanced and Ultimate?
MOSES covers 3D hull models, frequency-domain stability and motions, mooring forces, connectors and static installation analysis. Advanced adds time-domain multi-body analysis, riser and pipeline dynamics, strength and fatigue, and SACS code checks. Ultimate adds complex jacket launches, structural deformation effects and advanced heavy lift and float-over.
What is MOSES Wind Turbine?
MOSES Wind Turbine, formerly OpenWindPower Floating Platform, combines MOSES Ultimate with OpenFAST solvers for coupled analysis of a floating platform, its mooring and the turbine.
How does MOSES work with SACS?
MOSES Advanced and Ultimate can import a SACS structural model. After hydrodynamic, structural and fatigue analysis in MOSES, SACS runs the design code checks on the floating structure.
Can MOSES simulate jacket launches and float-overs?
Yes. MOSES Ultimate handles complex jacket launches, with six-degree-of-freedom time-domain simulation and automated ballasting, and advanced heavy lift and float-over operations.
Does MOSES analyse mooring and risers?
Yes. MOSES models catenary moorings, nonlinear springs and connectors, and Advanced adds large-deflection dynamics of mooring lines, TLP tendons, risers and pipelines.
Which structural codes does MOSES check against?
The structural solver assesses beam and plate strength and fatigue following AISC, DNV, ISO and NORSOK, with MOSES versions of SACS Post, Joint Can and Fatigue.
Does MOSES do frequency-domain and time-domain analysis?
Yes. Every edition covers frequency-domain stability and motions, through strip theory and 3D diffraction. Advanced and above add time-domain simulation of multi-body systems.
Can MOSES be automated?
Yes. The MOSES scripting language automates model creation, multiple scenarios, reports and parametric studies, and MOSES Executive runs analyses in batches.
How is MOSES licensed?
Each edition is sold by Bentley as a 12-month subscription with one licence. Enterprise options are available, and students and educators can get free academic access.
Can you train our team in MOSES?
Yes. Our 3-day MOSES course covers hull modelling, stability, motions and RAOs, and mooring analysis, with a certificate from Aryatech and Bentley.
Have you used MOSES on your own projects?
Yes. We used MOSES on all three of our floating solar projects in India, including anchoring and mooring design with Stewart Technology Associates (USA).
Need MOSES for your offshore team?
Tell us the operations you analyse and how many engineers need it. We will recommend the edition and send a quote.
