Design engineering and structural analysis for offshore structures

Structural design and analysis of fixed platforms, floating vessels and semi-submersibles, from the first model to the final code check, in SACS, ANSYS, MOSES, MAXSURF and STAAD.Pro.

  • 4design codes: DNV-OS, ABS, NORSOK, ISO
  • 3design methods: LRFD, WSD, limit state

What we design

Six parts of every design engagement

From the first model to the final check, one team handles the whole design.

  • Structural modelling and FE analysis

Global and local models of the structure and its connections, built in SACS or ANSYS.

  • Design to recognised methods

LRFD, WSD or limit state design, chosen to suit the governing code and the owner's specification.

  • Code checks

Member and joint checks to DNV-OS, ABS, NORSOK and ISO, documented for the client's review.

  • Weight and material optimisation

Lighter structures that use less steel, without giving up capacity.

  • Fatigue analysis

Fatigue life of members and joints under wave and operational loading.

  • Load-out, transport and sea-fastening

Load-out and transportation analysis, with sea-fastening designed for the tow.

Analyses we run

How we work

From your drawings to a checked design

  1. 1

    Share drawings and loads

General arrangement and structural drawings, equipment weights, and the operating and environmental conditions.

  2. 2

    Agree method and codes

We confirm the design method, governing codes, load cases and deliverables in a written proposal.

  3. 3

    Model and analyse

Global and local models in SACS or ANSYS, run against every agreed load case.

  4. 4

    Check and optimise

Code checks on members and joints, then optimisation of weight and material.

  5. 5

    Report and drawings

Calculation report, recommendations and, where in scope, reinforcement details and detailed drawings.

Questions

What clients ask before a design job

Which design methods do you use?

LRFD, WSD or limit state design, chosen to suit the governing code and the owner's specification.

Which codes do you design to?

DNV-OS, ABS, NORSOK and ISO, as the project and the owner require.

Can you design modifications to an existing structure?

Yes. Recent examples include relocating a 150 MT safe-working-load SMIT bracket, a new ST-80 floor socket at the drill floor and a new compressor platform on a jack-up's main deck.

Do you cover load-out and transportation?

Yes. We run load-out and transportation analyses and design the sea-fastening for the tow.

What will we receive?

A calculation report with results and recommendations and, where the scope includes them, reinforcement details and detailed drawings.

Have a structure to design or modify?

Send us the drawings, the loads and the change you need. An engineer will come back with questions and a scope.
