STAAD is a comprehensive structural engineering software suite that enables engineers to perform end-to-end analysis and design for any structure — from the superstructure down to its foundation — all within an integrated, interoperable workflow.

STAAD.Pro

At its core, STAAD is a powerful finite element analysis application with an intuitive interface that automatically converts physical models into analytical models, streamlining the design process. It supports analysis of any structure subjected to static, dynamic, wind, seismic, thermal, and moving loads, and includes design capabilities for steel, concrete, timber, aluminum, and cold-formed steel structures using international design codes — with automated steel drawing generation built in.

STAAD is available in three flexible tiers to match firm needs:

• STAAD.Pro – Core FEM analysis and physical modeling
• STAAD.Pro Advanced – Adds advanced, complex analysis capabilities
• Structural WorkSuite – The most popular structural applications bundled into a single, cost-effective license

STAAD undergoes rigorous quality and testing procedures compliant with 10CFR Part 50 Appendix B, 10CFR Part 21, and ASME NQA-1, making it approved for use in nuclear power installation design.

STAAD Foundation Advanced

Extending seamlessly from the superstructure model, STAAD Foundation Advanced handles analysis and design for virtually all foundation types — isolated, combined, pile cap, and mat foundations (with or without piles) — within a single integrated project environment. Engineers can assign, analyze, design, review, and generate deliverables for every foundation type in one place.

Its finite element analysis engine, powered by STAAD.Pro’s FEA capabilities, supports complex mat foundations of any shape (rectangular, polygonal, or with openings) and can also be applied to isolated, combined, and pile cap foundations as an alternative to traditional rigid analysis, with optimized reinforcement design.

Deliverables include detailed calculation reports with to-scale footing sketches, graphs, and code-referenced formulae; bill of quantities; and CAD-exportable plan, elevation, and sectional drawings with rebar marks, schedule summaries, and general arrangement (GA) drawings.

Seamless Integration Across Both Tools

STAAD.Pro and STAAD Foundation Advanced are fully interoperable — any analyzed STAAD.Pro model can be imported into or exported from STAAD Foundation Advanced, automatically transferring column positions, finite elements (walls/slabs), cross-sectional properties, and support reactions. Changes to the superstructure can be re-imported to re-evaluate the substructure design.

Basic foundation functionality is accessible with a standard STAAD.Pro license, but full capabilities — including finite element analysis across all foundation types — require Structural WorkSuite or a dedicated STAAD Foundation Advanced license.

Built for Collaboration

Both tools support broad interoperability with Bentley’s desktop, cloud, and mobile applications — including OpenBuildings Designer, AutoPIPE, Revit, and Tekla — enabling streamlined multi-discipline collaboration, full BIM integration for concrete and steel workflows, and the ability to view and edit models from mobile devices.
